How to Seek Ordination
Many have asked how exactly one goes about seeking Ordination in the IOCCA. This brief message should help with that process.
1. Review the material in this site and that of The Independent Old Catholic Church of the Americas. (offsite).
2. Pray about the matter, is God calling you Priesthood?
3.Feel free to email us with any questions.
4. Before you are considered you need to complete Seminary training, and all that information is available at the Seminary Web Site. If you already hold Seminary training we have an Orientation Course available which deals with the IOCCA.
5. You must complete a formal application to apply for Ordination Status. Which will be sent to you by mail. It requires, in confidence, information about you and requires letters of reference, photo etc. This usually also involves a telephone conversation.
6. You must have a specific ministry in mind, and reflect some call to that work.
7. You will be asked to have a telephone interview with at least three clergy where you can ask questions and so can they.
8. If you and we both feel a call to ordination, a date will be set.
9. Following Catholic Tradition you will first be ordained a Deacon. After a period of time, (usually a year but may be less) you will be ordained a Priest.
10. If you are already in Holy Orders and are seeking incardination (transfer), you need to take our Orientation Course and complete our application form. If you are under spiritual authority of another Bishop you need a release from that Bishop.
11. No valid Ordination can be done except in person. In an emergency we will issue a Ministerial License.
12. We hold an annual Synod and all clergy are expected to attend if at all possible.
13. We wish to stress that our clergy serve without salary, and you are expected to build your own ministry - congregation, home worship, nursing home, counseling etc.
Many of us of course will assist you with advice, counsel and prayer.
14. Priesthood is a fellowship of those called and dedicated to the Lord and His service. We welcome you to pray and consider joining with us.
